What animals am I likely to see in Ngorongoro?

In Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater is said to have the world’s densest population of lion, Elephants, Black rhinos and buffalos can easily be seen here. The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World,’ a visit to the crater is the main drawcard for tourists coming to Tanzania and a definite world-class attraction. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is the home of Ngorongoro Crater. It was formed some 2.5 million years ago from a volcanic mountain sinking due to inactivity and was initially thought to be higher than Tanzania’s famous Kilimanjaro. The crater has evolved into a unique and integral part of Tanzania’s eco-system. The crater is actually a caldera, measures 22.5 km’s across and the rim walls stand 600m high. Views from within and from the rim are breathtaking. The crater houses 30,000 animals and a large variety of birds, which rarely move from the area due to the availability of water through wet and dry seasons.

The Tarangire national park is one of the most visited parks in the Northern Tanzania safari circuit it provides a spectacular destination for game viewing if combined with Lake Manyara National park, Ngorongoro crater, and Serengeti national parks. Huge herds of elephant are a distinctive feature of Tarangire, but the grassland, swamps, and floodplains found here are home to big cats, giraffe, baboons and hippo, and other wild game. It’s also important to note that Tarangire National park is a haven for numerous species of birdlife. Tree-climbing lions and rock pythons can be easily spotted here.

Detailed safari Itinerery

Day 1

At the start of our 8 Days Adventure Kenya and Tanzania combined safari your tour guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel at 0730 hrs – a safari briefing session with our tour consultant then drive to the Masai Mara Game Reserve as you enjoy the scenic views of the Great Rift Valley – Masai Mara game reserve is the northern part of the Serengeti, one of Kenya’s most favored game-viewing areas. The reserve covers 700 square miles of magnificent wilderness. It is the Africa of the imagination; endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills. Afternoon game drive to see the sun downer as you trail the Big 5 i.e. Lions in large prides, Elephants, buffaloes, zebras and numerous plain game. Dinner and overnight stay at Enkorok Mara camp
Day 2

Masai Mara National Reserve

We will spend the full day exploring the Masai Mara, with its abundance of large mammals and diverse bird life. Big cats are a very prominent feature of the Masai Mara and also include Cheetahs and Leopards, both of which are fairly straightforward to find here. We are definitely at ‘Predator Central’ here and there can be few, if any wildlife spectacles anywhere in the world that can rival the tension, drama and emotion of a Mara crossing. As many as a million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra attempt this epic journey each year. Watching as thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather at a crossing point you can almost feel the pressure build on the animals at the front as they consider the right time to attempt to cross the dangerous waters of the crocodile-infested Mara River. It is, however, a time of plenty for the gigantic Nile Crocodiles that live in the river and lie in wait as hundreds of thousands of animals head north from the Serengeti Plains to feed on the lush Mara grasslands. The foaming waters, noise and drama of a Mara crossing has to be experienced to be believed and offers dramatic action photo opportunities. Dinner and overnight stay at Enkorok Mara camp or similar
Day 03

Masai Mara -Hells gate National park

Breakfast then our Adventure Kenya and Tanzania combined safari exits the park and contunes to Naivasha -visit to hells gate national park- this park can be explored on foot or by cycling- bicycles are available for hire at an extra cost. Dinner and overnight stay at Sawela Lodge Hells gate national park is characterized by diverse topography and geological scenery. It has historically been an important home for the rare lammergeyer, but it is now thought that the famous pair of birds may not have nested in the park for several years. One is encouraged to hike and cycle in the park. This is a rarity in Kenyan National Parks, and is only made possible due to the lack of large predators such as lions and cheetahs
Day 04

Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National park

Morning boat ride in Lake Naivasha then drive to Naivasha via Nairobi as you enjoy the scenic views of the Great Rift Valley, Lunch at Kibo safari camp then proceed for afternoon game drives at the scenic park at the foot hills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli National park is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Kenya. It is situated close to Kenya- Tanzania border, The Park lies at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5,896m) whose snow-capped summit presents a splendid view on clear days.
